Phoenix Tran is an Hawaii-based artist focusing primarily in print media, including film photography, digital imaging, screen-printing, and bookmaking. Tran’s work concentrates on conceptualizing personal and cultural identity in relations to American sociology. His recent work aims to abstract photo centric subjects that help him dissect and understand being a Vietnamese American in today's society. Tran is the co-founder of Gritty Committee, a Hawaii based artist collective with the goal of representing university art students and alumni.
Raised in Southern California and Texas, Tran experienced a great deal of diversity as well as racism and prejudice. This is the root of his practice, where he aspires to create conversations regarding race, identity, and mental health.
